ACEH JAYA, 2/9 ELEPHANT POPULATION. Residents row their boat as they pass a Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) on Sampoiniet mountains, Aceh Jaya, Aceh province, September 1, 2012. According to International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), sumatran elephant is an endangered species which population drops from 5,000 in 1985 to 2,400-2,800.
