WORLD HERITAGE AT THE WEST END OF JAVA

The morning sun has enchanted itself, circulate the shade in the shades of the Nipah tree. TNUK is one of the National Parks in Indonesia that has been established as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992 and is a representative of the remaining and widened tropical rainforest ecosystem in West Java.

There are three types of ecosystems in this national park, namely the ecosystem of sea water, the prone ecosystem, and land ecosystem. TNUK has an area of 122.956 hectares consisting of 78.619 hectares of land area and 44.337 hectares of aquatic area. The large line of TNUK can be divided in three regions, namely Ujung Kulon peninsula, Gunung Honje, and Panaitan Island.

TNUK is famous for biodiversity, one of them as the last habitat of the ceremonies of the Javanese Badak (Rhinoceros sondaicus). Some other rare faunas also admire the area among others Owa Jawa (Hylobates Moloch), Surili (Presbytisigula) and forest dogs (Cuon alpinus javanicus). In addition, there is also Rusa Timor (Rusa Timorensis), Banteng Jawa (Bos javanicus), Merak (Pavo cristatus), Lutung Jawa (Trachypithecus auratus), the sea eagle of white chest (Haliaeetus leucogaster).

In addition to the diversity of fauna, TNUK also stores abundant flora wealth. More than 700 types of living plants in it and 57 types of which are classified as rare plants in Java even the world. Flora in TNUK is classified to several parts that are lowlands rain forests, primary forests, secondary forests, and coastal forests.

Types of high trees in the TNUK forest grafting Gebang Pallets, Holdings, and Salam that can reach a height of 40 meters, exceeding other types of canopy. Below there are big trees such as Bayur, Gadog, and Putat.

Banteng Java (Bos javanicus) and Burung Merak (Pavo cristatus) jantan seeks to eat in the moisturizing field, Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten.

The existence of exotic and varied flora and fauna in the National Park is certainly a nation’s national asset that must always be treated and maintained. The government set the Ujung Kulon National Park area as a protected area based on Law No.5 in 1990 on the Conservation of Natural Resources. TNUK is also a National Strategic Area of the interest of functions and educational resources of the living environment under the Government Regulation No. 26 years 2008 on the National Regional Tata Plan.

The role of various parties is whether the government, non-profit institution (NGO) as well as the surrounding community is required to always maintain the preservation of the TNUK nature as a legacy for future generations.
