Prabumulih, one of the cities in South Sumatra Province, is known as one of the petroleum industry rintisan sites in the water soil since the colonial era that remains productive until now.
The long history of the hulu migas in South Sumatra has lasted since 1895 by the establishment of NV Dutchche Indiane Exploratie Maatschappij (NIEM) by the Dutch government to carry out the exploration of migas in South Sumatra and Jambi region. During the time, more and more the discovery of the mythical fields in various regions of South Sumatra, including Muara Enim, the area that became the cikal of the Prabumulih City.
Prabumulih city is the exchange of Muara Enim Regency in 2001. The city stands autonomy based on Law 6/2001 on the Formation of Prabumulih City and then it was inaugurated to the City Government on October 17, 2001.

According to Senior Manager Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field Muhammad Luthfi Ferdiansyah, there are three steps carried out to increase the production of migas in the area. One of the successful major achievements in 2024 is the achievement of oil lifting per June 2024 which recorded 8.780 barrels of oil per day rises sharp from the beginning of the year by 7.999 barrels of oil per day. The lifting amount also reaches 117 percent of the government’s predefined target.
The achievement was achieved from the success of Workover well workover GNK-82 and Well Intervention well GNK-071 located in the village of Mount Kemala District Prabumulih West city Prabumulih and an increase in amount of wells produced from 140 drill wells in 2023 to 190 wells.
Not only oil, gas lifting in 2024 also experienced an increase in 105 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day at the beginning of the year to 114 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day per June 2024.

Lifting gas is also predicted to continue to rise sharply along with drilling programs in Prabumenang (PMN), Lavatera (LVT) and Lembak Structure (LBK).
With hard efforts, repair and modernization then expected Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field will continue to be able to support the achievement of the national target of oil production of 1 million barrels per day and gas of 12 billion standard gas cubic feet per day in 2030.
