Often we hear the slogan “From Sabang to Merauke” to describe Indonesia’s territorial region from west to east without knowing exactly what is meant.
Sabang called as the outermost limit of the archipelago is one of the administrative cities in Aceh Province and located in Weh Island, but this island is not the end limit of Indonesia. There should be a sea trip as far as 15 miles from Weh Island to arrive at the end point of Indonesia’s main territory, Rondo Island.
The island is always kept by 34 TNI personnel consisting of 24 Marines and 10 Riders combined in the Greatest Island Safety Unit. Replacement of guard forces is carried out every 9 months once.

During the time of task, Rondo Island troops lived in a barak sized approximately 20 x 5 meters which is about 200 meters from Indonesia’s outermost coastline. To be able to arrive at the congregation post on the velvet coastline, the Rondo Island troops must ride about 300 natural stairs among trees.
Patrol conducted every day by Rondo Island troops contains more than just maintaining island security, but also maintaining the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) through leading gates. However due to the limitation of facilities, the troops only carried out the land turnover every day and occasionally the sea patrol.
In addition to patrols, Rondo Island troops also match the planting and alternately traveling to Sabang city to buy daily necessities regardless of the help of logistics obtained every month from local governments as well as fish from the fishermen that lions on the island.
