GELIAT GERABAH CLIPOH DRILLOBUDUR

The morning, the white smoke seems to collect in one of the village corners located in the Borobudur Temple area, Central Java. A number of people look vibrant to take advantage of the sun to sunbath and burn the clay gerabah after a few days before the rain struck the area. They burn gerabah with a fire that originated from the foliage of the already dry banana tree. In order to get the maximum results they share tasks, there is a role of putting banana foliage among the gerabah, there is also the task of making a fan made of bamboo woven.

It is one of the everyday sights in Dusun Clipoh located in Karanganyar Village, Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, Central Java. According to people’s turnover, Clipoh’s gerabah crafts have been done local communities under the findings, from generation to generation.

Chairman of the Perajin Group "Bina Karya" Dusun Clipoh Supoyo puts Clipoh stirring around 600 souls whose majority of her citizens are professional as a craft of gerabah. Perajin usually makes the gerabah to meet the needs of people both domestic and foreign tourists travelling to Borobudur Temple and surrounding areas. Up to now recorded as 86 active craftsmanships produce gerabah.

A variety of Clipoh’s gerabah products include kendil, cobek, blengker, kuali, to anglo marketed at Rp2,000 to Rp30.000 per item.

Meanwhile, in order to realize the preservation and exude the promotion of Clipoh’s gerabah crafts, the craftsmen open the opportunity for everyone to learn to make the gerabah in Clipoh. Clipoh door opens for touristsdomestic and foreigners as well as learners who want to study clay into a gerabah.
